Lamont gluesetter for Hammonds Furniture

HAMMONDS Furniture, the fitted bedroom and home office specialist, is a family run business based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Established in 1926, Hammonds is now one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of fitted bedroom and home office furniture with
designs to suit all from the classic to the contemporary. The company is thriving despite
the recession, with an average of 4,000 units passing through the factories each week, meaning speed of production is paramount. To this end, Hammonds Furniture has recently invested in its second gluesetter form Lamont. “We have recently taken on a big contract for a leading retailer which calls for a framework for sliding wardrobes and we have to glue it together,” senior production engineer, Dave Linforth, told PW&SS. The new gluesetter was installed in March 2010, in time for production of the new range when it commenced in earnest in April. Dave told PW&SS that he had no hesitation in contacting Alan Lamont when the need for the gluesetter had arisen, as he knew from previous experience that Alan was both knowledgeable and professional. Dave explained, “A few years ago when we introduced a new range for Hammonds called Palladian, which was glued and dowelled together, we needed a quick way of fixing the joint. After looking at alternatives, we found that Alan seemed to have the most knowledge: he looked at the application and had the experience to know what we were doing. “He brought in a system to us and tested some samples, which were successful, and we made the purchase. We now use the gluesetters on two products: one for fixing a dowel joint and the other for fixing a tongue joint. “The main benefit for us in using the gluesetters has been in terms of throughput. We can move panels more or less immediately from assembly into a spray
booth to be painted, saving a day on production time. Instead of having to clamp panels until fixed and handle them twice, they now go almost straight onto a trolley and into the spray booth.” He would be happy to recommend both Lamont and the gluesetter to those wishing to speed up production by reducing gluing times.
