HY-TECH Joinery, based in West Lothian, has been manufacturing stairs, doors, windows and timber components of the highest quality for the past 21 years, working predominantly in tropical hardwoods. With a strong commercial client base in Edinburgh and its environs, the company has weathered the recession well. During April 2010, managing director
of Hy-Tech Joinery, Greig Rooney, invested in a clamp from Lamont. The clamp is unusual in terms of its workpiece capacity, which is 4,800 mm x 1,350 mm. It has a maximum workpiece depth of 250 mm. Indeed, Alan Lamont (of Lamont) describes the bespoke
product as being “the size of a bus!”. Mr Rooney selected the Lamont clamp for a variety of reasons. These included the demands of the workshop, which could accommodate
a vertical clamp of this size but not a horizontal one; the fact that Lamont was the only Scottish supplier who could provide the kind of product he wanted; and the high
quality of personal service that Alan Lamont provided. One feature which both Hy-
Tech Joinery and Lamont have in common, says Mr Rooney, is a commitment to providing bespoke quality products. He was particularly pleased with the way that Alan was able to design a model designed to meet his company’s specific multiple requirements,
rather than simply adapting an off-the-shelf product. He was also delighted with the
warm welcome he received whenever he visited the Lamont workshop to review progress. After six weeks of operation, Mr Rooney reported that the purchase of the clamp had already resulted in a significant improvement in the already high quality of his finished
products, especially in terms of lamination, particularly of stair components.
He also added the labour saved on assemblies was substantial and, due to reduced labour cost and increased output, the clamp would pay for itself in no time, and that he would be delighted to recommend both the product and the company to others.
