WHEN THE COMPANY that Doug Lawrence and three colleagues worked for went into administration and could no longer fulfil its orders, the four men decided the time had come to branch out on their own and set up The Children’s Bedroom Company Ltd.
With a good level of initial business, the company moved into an empty shell on 4th July this year: by 25th July, the unit was in full production, having been fully equipped with all the necessary woodworking machinery to produce painted, fully assembled children’s
furniture. Among the machinery in this new factory was a new Lamont clamp, seen as essential in ensuring the accuracy of the finished product. The choice of Lamont was easy,
Doug told PW&SS: “My three business partners had previously used Lamont clamping equipment, and had always had a good experience in terms of accuracy and reliability.
Lamont was their first choice of clamping system when we choseto set up in business.”
He also reports an excellent experience in doing business with Alan Lamont: “He was as good as his word in terms of lead time and supply: we were very pleased to do business with him.” The clamp, which is mainly used for constructing the front frames of
chests and the assembly of bed components, is seen as essential in maintaining the high quality of the company’s products. “It’s not a complicated machine, but, to use an old
phrase, it does what it says on the tin. It performs the function we expect of it consistently every time.” He continues, “When you put the components on the clamp, you know that the end result will always be consistently accurate.” When asked if he would recommend
it to others, Doug replied: “Yes, if it came up in conversation with another manufacturer! We would have no hesitation in recommending that particular brand to an alternative company because of our own experiences with it.”
